lapis lazuli
self-portrait
october 2011

this is going to be a challenging, greatly rewarding final project. my exploration will include traversing into the dreamscape via light, color, abstraction, the whimsical and removal of reality. notes of the deepest sea, outer space, and various "other-worldly" landscapes will be my focus.

Here are the new contact sheets for the Color as Content assignment, I realized many were missing from the last set. Here are the new images!

color ring around

I noticed among this photo set that color manipulations vary at the slightest touch. It was difficult to not do too much color for some of the photos - for example, the green/cyan photo (the last of the set) looks incredibly green in comparison to the others. However, it's all about personal taste when editing. I like the capability of the program Lightroom to create such drastic or subtle changes in photos altogether.

assignment 3 contact

Here are more photos for the project, supposed to replace some of the lackluster/subpar images from previous contact sheets. These were intended to go on the original contacts but they were saved on the Mill Race computer instead of my hard drive.

something new

A practice shot with my brand-new-to-me Nikon D40. This camera will take some time to master but I know we shall be lifelong friends.

self-referential

my ancient flickr

explorations in film and digital photography, dating from 2006 to 2009.

first things first.

My name is Meaghan Larkin, and I am an undergraduate studying art and design aesthetics at the University of Oregon. My hometown is Portland, Oregon, but I feel the most at home at the coast or in the mountains of California. In my studies, my primary focus is to express and expand upon the things that make life fascinating, wonderful, and beautiful. I have words, images, and questions to explore. I paint non-representationally; illustrate with ink and graphite; and explore patterns, light & its possibilities, color, shape, and space. I've felt that I've always had a photographic eye, giving attention to detail, placement, and mood. I like to explore a location, a person, or the smallest thing to find the hidden magic to bring forward. I've taken a black and white photography class while studying at the University, and there was a lot of magic in learning the process of developing my own photos. I've grown to love technology and its insane amount of possibilities after a long while of resenting it for its extreme presence in our 21st century lives. I figure it's time to embrace it, while still remaining an old soul who prefers handwriting, vinyl, books, and photos in print. I hope to grow as a photographer in the ways of expanding my knowledge of the camera's capacity, and to the able to use it for all its worth.
